Ah, the joys of parenthood. Little Georgie seems to bring home a new bug every week. This week we thought she was teething again; she's been unsettled and running a tad hot. Plus her cheeks are bright red. She looks like a cabbage patch doll (why did pictures of Pamela Anderson come up when I googled images for that?). Anyway, she's been unsettled all week. Friday morning I got up at 3 and spent the next 4 hours downstairs trying to get her to sleep. Good job I had the day off.

For the avoidance of doubt, early morning TV is still shite. Only time I used to watch it was after a night out at Snobs. We all used to pile back to someones house to try and smoke enough weed to erase the speed. It never worked. Talking of which, this site was brought to my attention. I've downloaded all the old Sasha mixes and still struggling to come to terms that I did all that 14 years ago. Feck, I feel old.

Whilst the World continues to tut and shake its collective head at the maltreatment of Iraqi prisoners, Israel goes about it's business of ethnic cleansing.

At least ten Palestinians, three of them children, were killed and some 55 others were injured, as shrapnel and explosives tore their bodies when Israeli tanks and attack choppers fired heavy artillery and missiles shells at a non-violent demonstration in Rarafah. 43 Palestinians have been killed thus far and scores of homes - 191 house - have been destroyed in the latest Israeli army carnage in the Gaza Strip. Overwhelmed doctors, who were treating the injured on blood-drenched hospital floors, said most of the injured were also children.

The contested area is an extremely densely populated yet arid region. Enclosed by a security fence on three sides and the Mediterranean Sea on the fourth, Gaza has become a prison for most of the population. Within it live 1.3 million Palestinians, of which over 900,000 are refugees who moved to the region after losing their homes in 1948. There is barely any industry in the Strip, and very few residents have been able to obtain permits to leave in search of work.

Unemployment rate is estimated at 50 percent, and figures indicate that 84 percent of the Palestinian residents live in poverty, with an average per capita income of $2 per day. Considering that the Strip is on the brink of a humanitarian crisis, it is not surprising that most people have become dependent on aid handouts. Practically all doors have been closed, except, of course, the mosque doors.

Sharon, so it seems, is destroying Gaza in order to withdraw from it, thus suggesting that the new Sharon is still the old Sharon. His myopic plans, informed by short term security concerns, totally ignore Israel’s aspiration to be a democratic state in the Middle East and have nothing to do with a vision of peace. Regardless of whether he manages to implement his plan, the vision of a Greater Israel, as opposed to a state of Israel, has, for the time being, triumphed.

The effect of all this?

An opinion poll conducted by the Palestinian studies center in the West Bank has revealed that 31% would vote for Hamas while 27.1% would vote for Fatah in any local elections.

This is the first time that Hamas wins top spot in any poll in the West Bank.

Although Islam prohibits suicide, the Middle East scholar Daniel Pipes explains that there are Muslims who argue that going into war knowing with certainty that one will die, is not suicide (intihar) but martyrdom (istishhad). Istishhad is a much-praised form of self-sacrifice in the path of God, and a way to win the eternal affection of the virgins in paradise. In addition as the quote given above (3.169) demonstrates the Koran says that martyrs do not die. Therefore they are not really suicides. Nasra Hassan wrote an article called "An Arsenal of Believers" for the New Yorker 11/19/01 for which he interviewed would be suicide bombers. He wrote:

One condition of the interviews was that, in our discussions, I not refer to their deeds as "suicide," which is forbidden in Islam. (Their preferred term is "sacred explosions.") One member of al-Qassam said, "We do not have tanks or rockets, but we have something superior—our exploding Islamic human bombs. In place of a nuclear arsenal, we are proud of our arsenal of believers.

Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi issued a fatwah legitimizing suicide attacks in which he argued that suicide bombings are not suicide. His fatwah stated:

The actions committed by the young Muslims who defend the land of Islam are the greatest form of Jihad for the sake of God and they are part of the permitted terror which the Quran talked about...It's a mistake to call these actions suicide because they are brave actions for the sake of God and the ones who commit them are considered 'shuhadaa' for the sake of God."

One of the masterminds of the terrorist attack in Bali, Amrozi bin Nurhasyim was interviewed by Australia's channel 9 television (worldnetdaily 5/18/03). When asked if he was a terrorist Amrozi replied:

Terrorism is ordered by Allah in the Quran.

Richard Roberts in a great article called "Why There Can be No Peace in the Middle East" wrote:

Moderate Muslims, who fear Wahabbism or Islamism as much as Westerners, claim that it is an aberration and contrary to the Koran; yet on closer examination of the Koran, we find that the faithful are enjoined “to fight in the cause of Allah.” Indeed, the only guarantee of attaining Heaven with Allah is through the “sacrifice of life in the service of Allah.” Those Muslims who refuse to fight in the cause of Allah will find themselves in Hell drinking boiling water. Thus, the only “peaceful” or moderate Muslims one will encounter are those who have rejected these parts of the Koran’s behest to murder non-Believers.

There are Moslems who say suicide bombing is against their religion. Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani, chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of America in an OpEd in the New York Post of 5/24/02, wrote that Muslim-Americans and their leaders need to reject violence in all its forms --

particularly the terrible suicide bombings that stand in such stark opposition to everything that Islam represents.

Even the mufti of the most fundamentalist school of law in Islam, the "Wahhabi" sect, declared that suicide bombings have never been an accepted method of fighting in Islam.

The mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Al-'Aziz Al-Sheikh, declared, "To my knowledge, so called 'suicide missions' do not have any legal basis in Islam and do not constitute a form of jihad. I fear that they are nothing but a form of suicide and suicide is also prohibited in Islam." This echoes an earlier fatwa by his predecessor, the late Saudi mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Baz....

The Islamic rules of military conduct never permit using civilians as targets or as hostages....

The popular, yet controversial, Islamic scholar Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaradawi issued a fatwa condemning the tragic suicide attacks of 9/11 stating: "Even in times of war, Muslims are not allowed to kill anybody save the one who is indulged in face to face confrontation with them." He added that they are not allowed to kill women, old persons or children, and that haphazard killing is totally forbidden in Islam.

Another widely followed religious scholar, As-Sayyid Tantawi, Grand Shaykh of Islam's highest institution of learning, the University of Al-Azhar, has said that attacks against women and children are "not accepted by Islamic law." Al-Azhar's Research Academy, shortly after Sept. 11, declared that a "Muslim should only fight those who fight him; children, women and the elderly must be spared."...

God says in the Qur'an, "Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress the limits; for God loves not transgressors."

Jamie Glazov in his article "Suicide For Allah" (FrontPageMagazine.com 2/7/02) wrote:

Many of Islam’s apologists insist that suicide bombing is not Islamic because the Koran forbids suicide. Mmm-hmm. So where are all the Muslims gathering in mass demonstrations to vehemently condemn this practice that slanders their religion? Why does contemporary Islam promote “martyrdom” as the highest duty of Muslims? Why are photographs of suicide bombers plastered everywhere in Beirut?

Because Islam is what Islam does

Staged murder?
1) extremely convenient "wag the dog" timing at the height of furor
regarding U.S. torture of Iraqis

2) CNN poll question: "Is the Berg killing a reason for withholding any
remaining Iraq prisoner abuse pictures?" Bush has been reported to be
struggling with question of whether Pentagon should release additional
torture photos. Given that the alleged decapitation of Berg was allegedly
prompted by the first wave of torture photos, Bush could now cite "national
security" issues for witholding additional materials.

3) Berg's last known whereabouts was in U.S. custody.

4) Berg shown in video wearing orange jumpsuit known to be of U.S. issue
(compare with pictures at Guantanamo).

5) Berg mysteriously captured by Al-Quaeda (still wearing jumpsuit). Either
he escaped from U.S. captors or U.S. let him out -- with orange suit and
all -- to be immediately apprehended by Al-Quaeda (before he had a chance to
change).

6) Tape obviously spliced together and heavily edited. Goes from a) Berg
sitting in chair talking about family, to b) Berg sitting on floor with
hooded "militants" behind, to c) blurry camera movement, to d) almost
motionless Berg on floor as head cut off.

7) Audio clearly dubbed in.

8) "Arab" reader flips through pages of "statement" and keeps ending up on
the same page. Perhaps doesn't even known enough Arabic to recognize what
page he's on?

9) "Arabs" have lily-white hands and (other exposed) skin.

10) "Arabs" have Western-style body posture and mannerisms.

11) When Berg decapitated, there was almost no blood. If Berg were still
alive at this point, with the cut starting at front of throat, blood would
have been spraying everywhere. Berg's severed head, the floor, Berg's
clothes, and even the hand of the "Arab" who decapitated Berg had no visible
blood on it.

12) Berg's body didn't move while on the ground. Although held down, Berg
would have tried to instinctively wiggle and writhe away from captor's grip.

13) Camera angle made it impossible to see if Berg's eyes were even open.

14) Alleged "scream" from Berg sounded to be that of a woman and was clearly
dubbed in.

15) Berg goes to great trouble to identify himself, providing information
about his family. Why? To elicit greater sympathy? Or to provide a
positive ID. FBI visited Berg family in an attempt to "verify his
identity". Guy in video looks very little like Berg photos provided by
family.

Rags Friday Five

Your best drug experience

1.. Which drug(s) was involved ?,
Combo of acid, speed and barbs.

2.. were these prescribed or attained ?

My GP is good, but he's not that good.

3.. what was the "experience" ?

To be honest, from 17 to 23 I was a bit of an addict. Smoking, doing acid, lines of speed and anything else that came along. The following isn't my best experience, but it's one of the funniest.

A bunch of mates rented a house on the back of Cannon Hill Park. Massive house with a basement. They used to hold some great parties. One summer night they had a party. The house was packed and a handful of us were totally of our nuts. At about 3 in the morning we decided to go for a walk in Cannon Hill Park. Those of you who know the area will know there's an arts centre there which has a small cafe. On the large window of the cafe was a big big Wall's Ice Cream sticker. We're talking abut 6 foot by 6 foot. My brother and I managed to peel it off and roll it up.

Not sure what to do with it we went back to the house. As we got close to the house we spotted my mate's VW Camper van.

My bother and I looked at each other.

We went back into the house and found the owner. He was speeding and trippin and generally all over the place.

We told him that his treasured VW Camper had been converted into an ice cream van. We took 40 minutes to persuade him to go outside and take a look. He took it well and kept the Wall's Ice Cream transfer on his van.

If you ever wondered what happened to the large Wall's sticker on the MAC? Know you know ;-)

4.. did you regret it immediately after, or now ?

If it was my best, why would I regret it?

5.. is it right for Governments to enforce on us what is "legal" and what isn't or should it be down to an individual's own responsibility what they do to their own bodies?

Yep. If the price of drugs had gone up at the same rate as beer and petrol, we would be paying just under £600 an ounce for sweet mary jane.

Maybe I'm getting cynical in my old age. But this picture says more about Bush wanting to get back into the White House (please God, no) than Bush the caring compassionate person he would us (and him) believe he is.

This week has been dominated with the news that US and British troops have been abusing prisoners of war. I'm surprised that people are surprised. The moment someone is held captive, for whatever reason and regardless of the circumstances, they are open to abuse. The policeman giving a slap to the arrested. The accidental fall down the stairs. Limbs and lives lost as captor torments captive. Children raped. Women burnt. It's always gone on.

There are two disturbing elements in all of these allegations. The first is that someone was dumb enough to take pictures. The second is that people were dumb enough to pose.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning the actions of these idiots. How on earth can you hope to promote Western style freedom and democracy if you ape the capitulated? How can we forge stronger bonds between the Middle East and the Old World if we're no better than those we say we've replaced? The notion of trust is quickly lost. New freedom fighters (or terrorists, depending on the side you stand on) are born. Maybe someone should send Bush a copy of The Zionist Fingerprint on the Post-September 11 World: America' Posture Toward Terrorism, Israel, and the Muslim-Arab Community

This book, with introductions by Congressman Paul Findley, Rabbi David Yisroel Weiss, and Attorney Stanley Cohen was written to shine a light on two current trends affecting the course of America's relations with the Middle East region. The first trend has been the exponential increase in violent acts conducted by Arabs and Muslims against the United States specifically. The second trend has to do with the role of the pro-Zionist sector in the United States in having led Washington to undertake actions that appear to be custom tailored to inflame the Arab-Muslim popular sentiment toward the United States in a manner that inevitably results in terrorism.

There are three separate sections, each of which deals with the problem from a different angle. The first of these, entitled "Terrorism and the Future of East-West Geopolitics," acknowledges that terrorism is a geopolitical phenomenon and advocates a dialogue between mainstream political Islamic figures and the US establishment with a view toward attacking terrorism by rooting out its causes. Specifically, it details how the US posture of hegemony is received in the Middle East and why it is perceived as hostile by the region's inhabitants, while also outlining the Zionist fingerprint on America's decision to project a threatening posture uniquely toward that part of the world.

The second section, entitled "Israel's Defense Ministry: The United States of America," deals specifically with the US-Israeli relationship in its present-day form. It addresses the reasons why America sees its relations with Israel as sacrosanct, focusing strongly on the alliance between the American Zionists, the Israeli government, and some powerful Christian fundamentalists as playing a major role in America's regional policymaking.

The premise is that US policy has been hijacked by these interests, and given that result, the reaction from Arabs and Muslims could not possibly have been anything other than a 100 percent conviction that the United States is out to harm them.

The final section, entitled "The Persecution of Arabs, Muslims, and Their Supporters inside the United States" addresses how the new American posture has affected politically active Arabs and Muslims inside the United States, as well as America's own previously cherished freedoms. It begins by discussing the saga of Palestinian Islamist individuals and charities and how they have been hunted down and persecuted on behalf of these Zionist interests. The discourse then moves on to discuss the activities of powerful Zionist figures based in America in subverting the formerly objective role of American journalism and in persecuting dissident thinkers in American academia. The section concludes by addressing what Muslims in the United States might eventually be able to do to restore their position in the far future, after the strategic situation has calmed down.

In OCCUPIED JERUSALEM - Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) shot dead a Palestinian man in the West Bank city of Hebron early Thursday, raising the Palestinian death toll to 17 since Sunday, including four children aged 9-16 years, while seven of them were extra-judicially assassinated in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Early Thursday, IOF shot dead a Palestinian man near Al-Haram Al-Ibrahimi mosque in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, claiming he tried to snatch the weapon of an occupation soldier, Israel Radio reported.

Late Wednesday, IOF extra-judicially killed Imad Mohammad Janajrah, 32, in the northern West Bank village of Tallouza, north of Nablus.

IOF troops from the Golani Brigade’s elite Egoz unit claimed the soldiers spotted Janajrah carrying arms and approaching them near his village, adding that they also detonated a bomb planted nearby.

IOF attempted to assassinate Janajrah last Tuesday, but the Israeli troops mistakenly killed Dr. Yaser Abu Laimun, 32, a lecturer in hospital management at the Arab-American University in the northern West Bank city of Jenin. The IOF apologized publicly for the death of Abu Laimun but the soldier who killed him has not been charged.

Earlier Wednesday, IOF announced that they had killed two Palestinians allegedly “in fighting with the Israeli army.”

However, Palestinian officials said one person was killed after entering an area declared a closed military zone by the IOF near the Gaza Strip border with Israel.

Only one body was found, they said.

In the central Gaza Strip town of Deir al-Balah on the same day, a Palestinian police officer was killed by sporadic Israeli gunfire that targeted dozens of young stone-throwers and wounded at least six others, including two journalists.

Abdullah Abdulfattah al-Jamal, 25, a resident of Al Bureij, sustained wounds in his stomach and died shortly afterwards in a local hospital, said the Palestinian official WAFA news agency.

Mahmud al-Hams, 24, an AFP photographer was moderately wounded by a live bullet in the leg while Reuters cameraman Suhaid Salem, 24, was lightly injured.

Both journalists were covering an Israeli raid into Deir Al-Balah on Wednesday.
