Surprise! Surprise! The Jessica Lynch story wasn't 100% accurate! "Never!" I hear you cry. US news reported that Private Lynch had been shot and stabbed. "What stabs wounds? What bullet wounds?" asked the Iraqi doctor who treated her. "She had wounds consistent with a car crash - broken leg, broken arm and a dislocated ankle. I didn't see any bullet wounds". No doubt a relative of Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf. It appears that Ms Lynch didn't need to be rescued after all. The Iraqis had agreed to hand her over to the US forces at an agreed time and location. The ambulance drove up to the check point, but the troops opened fire which forced the driver to do a u-turn back to the safety of unoccupied territority. When the US "special" (is that special as in "good" or special as in "Timmy is special and goes to a special school with other special kids?") forces stormed the building (a hospital, but let's ignore that bit) they met no resistance. But, it was all being taped for the folks back home (after they had been given some tips from the producer of BlackHawk Down), so they fired their guns, set off some grenades and shouted a lot to give the impression that this was a dramatic and heroic rescue. In fact, they could have just walked in, asked at reception, been taken to her room and wheeled her out. You will be surprised to hear that Jessica has no recollection of any of the events that took place. Now, about those gunshot wounds she suffered....... Catch the Worm Had a bad dream lately? ![]() Well done to Craig Jones in obtaining ValMoto's first pole of the season. The young lad did good. Full report. |
